A Simple Test
Commission an enquiry where the decision is difficult to reverse, expensive to unwind, or exposes the family reputationally — and where a verifiable fact would change what you do.
If no discoverable fact would alter the decision, an enquiry is not the right instrument.
Mandates We Decline
We do not accept instructions intended to monitor, pressure or intimidate a person, nor enquiries into a spouse or partner where the purpose is control rather than a decision.
Lawfulness is a threshold, not a preference.
Proportionality
Scope should match the decision. A first meeting does not require the depth appropriate to a marriage settlement or a property transfer.
